For the first night of Hanukkah, we went to our friends' house for candle lighting and Shabbat dinner. Although we had a lovely time, it never quite feels like Hanukkah until one has saturated the air in one's own kitchen with the smell of latkes cooking:

Your latkes look yummilicious. We're skipping them this year since while they're supper good, the smell makes my tummy forget I should be done with morning sickness. Thanks for the vicarious taste :)
mmmmmmmm, I can almost taste them. we made ours day before yesterday, the scent clung to the apt. for a day or so, tho'...
